Frequently Asked Questions

How does the HeadAlert mouthguard detect head impacts?

HeadAlert uses built-in motion and impact sensors that continuously measure g-force during play. When an impact crosses one of the predefined thresholds, the corresponding LED lights up instantly to show the severity.

Do I need a smartphone, Bluetooth, or cloud connection for it to work?

No. HeadAlert is completely self-contained. It works with no phone, no pairing, and no external connectivity — making it perfect for grassroots and amateur sport.

What do the three LEDs mean?

Each LED represents a specific g-force threshold. When a collision exceeds one of those levels, the matching LED illuminates to indicate the severity of the impact.

Who can use HeadAlert?

HeadAlert is designed for athletes of all ages and skill levels — from youth teams and school sports to community clubs and competitive amateur leagues.

How is the mouthguard fitted?

HeadAlert is fitted by HEADALERT-approved dentists to ensure a precise, secure, and comfortable fit. This professional fit guarantees the sensors perform accurately and consistently.

Can my local dentist fit a HeadAlert mouthguard?

Yes. Your chosen dentist can take your impressions as usual. A HEADALERT-approved practitioner or partner then integrates the technology into your custom-fit mouthguard.

Is the technology safe inside the mouthguard?

Absolutely. All electronics are fully sealed within the mouthguard’s protective layers and are designed to withstand the demands of contact sport.

Does HeadAlert replace concussion protocols?

No. HeadAlert does not diagnose concussion. It provides real-time impact awareness to support pitch-side decision-making. A medical assessment should always follow a concerning impact.

How long does the battery last?

The internal battery is engineered for extended training and match use. Full battery specifications can be found on the product page.

Does the mouthguard require maintenance or updates?

No ongoing updates or syncing are required. Just ensure the mouthguard is charged and stored properly between sessions.

What sports is HeadAlert suitable for?

Any contact or collision sport, including rugby, football, hockey, martial arts, lacrosse, basketball, and more.

Is there a subscription or recurring fee?

No. Because it operates without cloud systems or apps, HeadAlert has no subscription costs, making it affordable for grassroots clubs.

How much does it cost?

Pricing varies depending on your dentist and the style of mouthguard you choose, but in most cases you can expect to pay around £60 more than a standard custom-fit mouthguard. This price includes the integrated HeadAlert technology and the wireless charging case.

How is the HeadAlert module embedded during vacuum forming?

The module is positioned on the dental model before forming. The mouthguard laminate is then vacuum-formed over it, bonding securely and sealing the technology inside.

Does the HeadAlert system change the usual impression or fitting process?

No. Dentists take impressions and create models exactly as they would for any custom mouthguard. The module is added during forming with only one extra placement step.
