What Is a HeadAlert Mouthguard?
The HeadAlert mouthguard is a professionally fitted, impact-detecting mouthguard designed to help players, coaches, and medics understand the severity of head impacts instantly during sport. It looks and feels just like a normal custom-fit dentist-made mouthguard, but inside it contains carefully engineered sensors and electronics that monitor impacts in real time.
Unlike many pieces of sports technology, HeadAlert works completely independently. It does not rely on a mobile phone, Bluetooth, the cloud, or a sideline device. Everything — from the sensing, to the processing, to the alert system — is fully contained within the mouthguard itself. This makes it ideal for grassroots, school, and amateur sport, where technology, personnel, and connectivity are often limited.
HeadAlert is simple, reliable, and built specifically to support better on-pitch decisions around potential head injuries.
Three LEDs correspond to three g-force thresholds, giving coaches and medics immediate clarity when a player needs to be removed for an off-pitch concussion assessment.
Designed for grassroots sport, schools, youth teams, amateur clubs and environments with limited medical resources.

How Does It Work?
HeadAlert has been engineered to make advanced safety as simple and practical as possible.
Here’s how the system operates during real-world sport:
1
Professionally Fitted for Accuracy and Safety
Every HeadAlert mouthguard begins with a dental impression taken by a HEADALERT-approved dentist.
This ensures:
- a precise, secure, comfortable fit
- sensors stay correctly positioned for accurate readings
- the mouthguard remains in place during impacts
- no bulky or awkward feel for the player
The fitting process is identical to receiving any premium custom mouthguard — the only difference is the advanced technology hidden inside.
2
Measuring Impacts in Real Time
Inside each mouthguard is an embedded impact sensor and processor. These components continuously measure g-force during matches and training sessions. The system samples and evaluates impacts instantly, without needing to record or transmit data externally.
This self-contained design ensures that the mouthguard works flawlessly in any environment — rain, sun, tournament days, or school fields with no connectivity.
3
Three LEDs Indicate Impact Severity
When an impact crosses one of three pre-set force thresholds, the corresponding LED lights up. Each LED represents a specific level of force.
This gives an immediate, visible indication to:
- coaches
- medics
- referees
- parents
- the player
This real-time feedback helps identify when a potentially dangerous impact has occurred, even if it wasn’t clearly seen on the pitch.
4
No Phones, No Pairing, No Cloud — Ever
HeadAlert is designed for maximum simplicity:
- no app to download
- no Bluetooth connection to manage
- no mobile phone required
- no cloud data or subscriptions
- no dependency on battery-heavy sideline tech
Just recharge, wear, and play.
The lack of external technology dramatically increases reliability and removes barriers for clubs, especially those with limited funding or volunteer staff.
5
Charge It and Go — With Sideline Support
Every HeadAlert mouthguard comes with a rugged backup power case:
- charges the mouthguard at home
- can recharge on the sideline during matches and tournaments
- protects the mouthguard between uses
This ensures the device is always ready, even for long days of play.
6
Smart Reset Options Designed for Pitch-Side Use
If an LED is triggered after a significant impact, the mouthguard can be reset in two safe, controlled ways:
A. Place it in the charger for 5 minutes
This deliberately timed reset allows medics or coaches to carry out a 5-minute pitch-side head injury assessment before a decision is made about returning to play.
B. Medic / Referee Override Key
A special override key can reset the device immediately when medically or procedurally appropriate.
This gives match officials and medical staff full control without interrupting game flow.
Together, these reset methods ensure the system fits seamlessly into the rhythm of grassroots sport, where time, resources, and personnel may vary.
Why It Matters?
Head impacts are not always obvious. Players may continue after a heavy collision, especially in fast-moving or physical sports.
HeadAlert provides instant, objective, visible information that helps:
- identify hidden or off-the-ball impacts
- reduce missed head injuries
- support safer decisions
- strengthen concussion awareness
- give parents and coaches confidence
It doesn’t diagnose concussion — but it highlights when a player should be removed and checked, supporting safer duty of care at every level.
